Still no takers? Guess it's a big garden to take on which puts some people off, but you've made it so beautiful, hopefully someone will fall in love with it soon.

Four have fallen for it, but they cannot sell their own, as of yet.

Oh no, have you lost your buyer?

No, she is still 'in the wind' so to speak. But having been let down so many times we are not holding our breath.
She has asked for a specialist survey for damp. So we have got to wait for the results of that. If she wants a reduction in price to pay for any treatment, she can go whistle. We have already dropped the price by as much as we can afford to do and have enough money to move ourselves. In that case we will take it off the market, have the work done by  local tradesmen before putting it back on the market at the old price.

Fingers crossed- our (eventual) buyer's lender also insisted on an additional survey for damp- maybe it's common these days?

Buyer came back early this week and is still mad keen to buy. No damp, but some woodworm in the timber in the roof space. Fairly normal for round here, about £400 to treat. She was not bothered about it. So fingers crossed we can proceed. Should be ready to sign by the end of this month if everything goes according to plan. Still not holding our breath though.

Any progress Palustris?   Have you managed to lift all the plants you want to keep?

Progress has been patchy. We managed to get a decent reduction in price on the property we want because of the value put on it by our surveyor. Since then the problems have been due to slow solicitors. Up to today (Sunday) we have had confirmation that our buyer is pressing ahead, that her buyers want to move on the 18th March. We have signed all the papers,BUT we are still waiting for confirmation of that date before we can do anything else.
It has been a roller coaster ride and still it goes on.
I have a tunnel full of plants to take with us. And before anyone shouts at me, these are either ones which have to be grown in pots so exempt from the sale, or divisions of ones in the garden. I have not removed all of anything from the garden.
Still think it could all end in expensive tears.

Fingers crossed then.  It's all so stressful and shouldn't have to be.   Good luck.

Fingers crossed again! At least March would be a good time for getting stuff planted in your new garden.

Just had a letter from our Solicitor which shows that all the delays, hold ups, problems are down to the vendor's Solicitor. He just has not answered letters from our chap, so they have had to be re-submitted two or three times and still not had a response. In theory the vendors are signing the contracts tomorrow. We shall see!

It's so frustrating isn't it?  In Belgium you get 4 months to complete from signing the "compromis" between vendor and buyer in the presence of a qualified and licensed estate agent to completing the official sale/purchase in the presence of the notaire who can act for both parties.   Penalties for being late or not getting the finance etc.  In France, it's 3 months.

Why can't the UK regulate like this and cut out the crap?

So now they could not get hold of our buyers Solicitor to organise exchanging contracts.

You couldn't make it up, could you?   Gone off for a long weekend has he?

 :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

There really should be some kind of penalty system for solicitors- they make enough money for old rope without delaying the process. Our solicitor worked out the money owing to us after our sale at £15,000 short- good job we checked!

Lovely, and sad to leave it all behind but now you need to concentrate on sorting and packing and plans for the new garden.

Good luck with all that.  Hope it goes well for you.

Such beautiful photos as always, I will miss them but looking forward to seeing what you do in your new garden. How big will your new garden be?

Not actually measured the space, but certainly a lot smaller than here.

The new owners are so lucky to be moving in at this time of year to your beautiful garden!

I'd really like to know which plants you have in pots, divided especially to take some of them with you?
You seem to have such a lovely selection to choose from :)

It would take a lot of work to list them all. Just to make it clear, all of them are divisions of plants in the garden, except for ones which are tender or, seedlings or things which we bought while we were still trying to sell. For example there are about 30 pots of named Snowdrops and over 400 Auricula seedlings.

I know you said they were divisions, I don't think I inferred otherwise tbh.
I just wondered which plants you felt you really couldn't be without in the new garden ;)
I for instance, have some hardy fuchsias that I have always taken cuttings from so I could take them with me, plus a lovely red Hellebore, which I don't know the name of :)

Trouble is that the new garden is almost certainly  shady, so most of my sun loving alpines would not grow. There were no visible signs of bulbs in the new place, so I have split up clumps of rarer Narcissus, Galanthus. Erythroniums etc. Also got a fair number of Wood anemone types as well. Hellebores, basically one of each sort (out of hundreds)

They all sound lovely and well worth the effort, thank you for answering :)

The removal man who came to survey us for a costing was a little bit astonished too! At least, once boxed they will move the plants for us.

Same here.  We ended up with a whole lorry trailer for my plants which included roses, clems, hydrangeas and hostas in pots plus other plants of particular personal significance lots of smaller pots of cuttings and divisions...
