Title: Fatsia Japonica

I have a fatsia japonica that I want to move.  Its been planted for about 2 years and is approx 4 1/2 foot high.. when is the best time to make the move ???

You might be better seeing if there are any suckers and potting those on in the spring. Failing that, make sure you can get a good rootball and move it in april. It is only a small one yet as they can get to 15' in a sheltered courtyard.

The best time to lift a Fatsia would be from March to April, before it start growing again OR at the end of the summer, September-October, when the soil is still warm and growth is slowing down.

Take cuttings in September, too late now, about 5 inches and put in coldframe.

Dig a hole in advance, plant in, soil and compost and a lot of water. Reduce some of the leaves (reduce water loss)

Thanks for the info... When we started with the garden just over 2 years ago, I planned the border but tended to plant things a bit tooooooo close together.  So now poor Fatsia is swamped by a thug of a lavateria and isnt too happy.
