In the last few days I have noticed small lumps of a jelly-like substance in my pond. Any ideas?
-
it's not frogspawn then?
-
Water snails attach rings of eggs in a firm jelly on the underside of leaves / weeds , as far as i can see they hatch into wiggly things that stick themselves to stones and then form a shell.
-
as picman said its most likley snail eggs if they on leaves, some pics would help identify it.
-
It's just clear lumps, biggest about 1cm across, floating in the water, not sticking to anything. ???
-
I'm seeing something similar but these are like sludge balls about 6cm across and a very dark green, almost black. When I fish them out with a net it's almost like mud but has a slight jelliness to it and a very strong smell. Nothing there that looks like eggs at all. It floats just below the top of the water and they've appeared randomly over the last few days.
-
Just to add to this, in the last few days the pond is coming a lot clearer. I don't really know if this is related to these floating sludge balls but I guess it's not a coincidence.
