They arrived yesterday *smiling from ear to ear* (me not the plants) - so I've potted them up and now they're languishing on my balcony.

I've never grown Fuschia's before but they look good and healthy so i'll see how i get on. I've been googling them so I can't go too far wrong hopefully.

Devonshire dumpling is trailing with pink/white flowers - Royal mosaic is trailing with pink/blue flowers mottled flowers.  They are both half hardy, so some protection required in winter. Not sure about Rocket fire.

I should have to say, with the benefit of personal hindsight, I am not a fan of J Parkers.

All decent plant companies guarantee their plants, so, if as in several cases here, you complain to the company,  they will replace plants, or refund the cost.  Not so, in the case of J Parker they will (instead of sending a credit to your credit card company, or a cheque) send you a credit note.  Therefore if you want to get the money back for the poor plants you have bought, you have to give them another order in order to cash in your credit note.

Nasty, 'nice little earner'.

I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Title: Re: 3 free giant fuchsias
Post by: ceres on June 28, 2008, 19:09:13
I emailed them to tell them one of the fuschias had arrived dead.  I didn't expect a replacement or anything like that but an apologetic reply would have been nice.
Title: Re: 3 free giant fuchsias
Post by: valmarg on June 28, 2008, 23:41:00
Sorry ceres, but you should expect a replacement/refund.  The company has happily accepted your money and not supplied you with viable plants.

I am not normally nangy, but if I have paid good money for something, and what I receive is substandard, then I either want a replacement of my money back.  Most companies I deal with are happy to do this.  J Parkers are not.

This was a free offer.  I agree with Ceres that an apology would have been nice but a replacement unlikely.  I wouldn't buy plants from J Parker either, but that discussion is probably for another thread.

I'd like to continue to hear how people are fairing with their free plants.

Title: Re: 3 free giant fuchsias

That was why I didn't expect a replacement!

There seems to be a common theme that the Devon Dumplings were duff stock.
Title: Re: 3 free giant fuchsias
Post by: Georgie on June 29, 2008, 10:28:41
Yes.  If the offer was to lure in new customers - and I can't see why else a commercial company would give things away - it's pretty dumb to give out duff plants.  Either that or virtually everyone who took advantage of the offer here is clueless with Fuchsias.   ;D

Hello

I did a order to jparker earlier on this year nearly £60 one word some's up the order s***e most of it dead or dying i rang up and complained they said they would replace the order so they did but again another shoddy delivery in the end i did get a small refund but lost near £30 over this not pleased.

I did report them to trading standards and did a report but i suppose i won't hear a thing.

Funny thing my 3 free fuchsias are doing fine one's budding up sorry i can't which as i didn't lable them.

Cheers

Glad to hear the latter part of your message.  If the buds are dark red then it is Rocket Fire.  If they are creamy white, elongated with deep pink stripes it's Royal Mosaic and if they are creamy white and quite rounded then it's Devonshire Dumpling.

Hope this helps.   :)

Hi Lorna.  Devon Dumpling is still my fave because it's more subtle.  I planted mine into a hanging basket today.   :)

On Monday I am going to have a good look in my hanging baskets/troughs, don't tell anyone but I have forgotten where I planted my 3 freebies and as my earlier labels were rubbish will have to look at your pics to see if mine survived :o Took a couple of pics of the swingtime you gave me, will post the pics next week.

I adore fuchsias.   I have nineteen varieties around the garden & two more on order.

I thought it was time we had an update on our freebies.

Royal Mosaic has been by far the most successful with three strong shoots and a fair amount of side shooting.  It's virtually filled the hanging basket now and is flowering well.

Devonshire Dumpling was also doing well with a similar growth habit to Royal Mosaic but in the last week or so it's looking limp and has stopped flowering.  I suspect vine weeval but I've not had a chance to check.

Rocket Fire is strong but only has one main stem flowering.  For some reason the side shoots are simply not taking off.

How are yours doing?
