Title: My first achochas!!!
Post by: antipodes on July 30, 2014, 10:03:21
From Fat Baby seeds given by goodlife a while back! Unfortunately my phone is playing up, keeps losing my photos, I will try and take pictures.
The vine is now about 1.5 metres high and the fruit are starting to come, there are about 5 on there. I picked the biggest one to taste but think it was too small still, it was only the size of the end of your thumb. They do look like this: http://test.themodernsaladgrower.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/achocha-300x300.jpg (http://test.themodernsaladgrower.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/achocha-300x300.jpg)
My question is, do I take out the seeds? Last night I ate the whole thing! I know that when they get big you deseed them and use them like sweet peppers but what about when they are small and tender?

I thought they were quite tasty, a bit like a cucumber.

That's neat, I've never thought to eat them that little, maybe if I get some later on, I'm sure I spotted a vine growing somewhere. I would think the seeds are very immature at thumbnail size and they would be fine to eat whole. Nice one  :happy7:

Yes, the seeds seemed to be soft and as I sliced it through the middle, there were only small bits. But later on I gather I should remove them.

Hi there, I've been eating mine for a bit - whole. They are impressive producers aren't they! I think they might even take over from courgettes!
