Title: lost internet explorer

I installed Avast antivirus and for some reason I managed to lose internet explorer.  Instead when I click into the icon, internet explorer pops up but then disappears and I get a box saying "view and check your downloads".  There is nothing in downloads and whatever I do I cannot get into internet explorer (where all my "favourites" are filed.  Funnily whilst installing Avast I ended up installing Googlechrome at the same time.  Would this have something to do with it?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanking you in advance.

In case you still have issues..

Internet Explorer hasn't gone anywhere - in fact it is pretty much built in to Windows..
Installing Chrome should not effect IE but it can make itself the default browser.  As an aside it normally grabs all the Favs etc out of IE so they may be there in Chrome too.

Firstly - where is the icon? It would also help to know what you are using - Windows 7, XP???
