Title: vine weevil

Well done. Wish all retailers were as reputable as you. Hopefully your policy will pay. I was going to add "in the long term" but I see you are the same age as me!

Post by: Palustris on March 12, 2015, 17:34:57: Spent the day soaking and I mean SOAKING, every plant in the frames in Provado. Still got the other frames to do and the stuff in the tunnel. Hope it works this time. Cuttings frame is getting full now with pieces of the destroyed plants. No sign of any adults, hope the resident frog ate them as them emerged.

Post by: ancellsfarmer on March 12, 2015, 19:26:25: You need some black beetles! These will predate the weevils. The biggest problem seems to be that the weevils can climb a plastic pot but the beetles lack grip on the shiny sides. Wouldnt be a problem with (proper) clay pots

Certainly not by the 1,000 that's for sure. Oh and I have never found a legal chemical which will kill the adults. I even allowed one to swim in pure bleach, it lived!

Now hoping that they are not in the greenhouse as the pots were just outside.

They are in almost every garden in the UK, BUT, in the soil they do far less harm than in the confines of a plant pot. They eat in a straight line out in the garden so they do not remove every root, whereas in a pot they are forced to go round and round and soon there are no roots left.
