Title: To uproot or not to uproot, that is the question
Post by: AlanP on July 25, 2007, 22:27:14
I have a Black Hamburgh grape vine in my polytunnel, it is 20ft long and 4 years old, i took 45 bunches of grapes off to leave 30 bunches on the vine, but just like last year all the grapes have just grown to pea size and then started to ripen. :(  This year I tried feeding it with tomato feed and giving it plenty of water, but it has made no difference. has anyone got any ideas before I take the bowsaw to it.  :'(

Are you thinning the grapes in each bunch? You should take at least half of them out....

I must admit that I have not thinned them out, but, there are quit a few other vines on the allotments where people do not thin them out and get good bunches of grapes  ???

I've been thinning my grapes almost every night for weeks now and it is sending me do lally as I have still only done about 10%. How do the commercial growers manage with hundreds of acres to thin? There must be a trick to it.
