Title: Pollen Beetles
Post by: Digeroo on July 13, 2018, 20:44:24
Has anyone else got  lack of pollen beetles.  My courgette flowers seem to be full of ants instead.

You can have some of are's, everything yellow is covered, when the oilseed rape is out the farmer's spray against the beetle,
I wonder what else it kills?  :coffee2: :coffee2:

Surely nobody WANTS pollen beetles all they do is eat pollen. I grew 160 varieties of narcissi and daffodils , we stopped dead heading as the pollen beetle eat the pollen so no seed set. Some people have stopped growing sweet peas as the beetle get inside the flowers and will come out once indoors. There does not seem to be any spray that will control them. :BangHead:

Could be controlled with  Provado Ultimate Bug Killer, but not on edibles. Not very bee friendly, it would kill them too ! Major infestations of Oil seed rape, of course are sprayed, the recent moratorium excludes this chemical thiacloprid

I have always thought that they pollenate courgettes.
