We call it fox and cubs ... It's very good for pollinators.
-
Thanks John
Looked it up and it is as follows;
Pilosella aurantiaca (fox-and-cubs, orange hawkweed, tawny hawkweed, devil's paintbrush, grim-the-collier) is a perennial flowering plant in the daisy family
Asteraceae native to alpine regions of central and southern Europe, where it is protected in several regions.
So now we both know.....thanks again!

Lots of them in our lawn, I always like to see it pop up.

If that's a weed I want one, it is beautiful. Would rather have that than all the bindweed I have at the allotment.

Lovely picture Tee Gee :happy7:
My auntie gave me a couple of plants for the garden and it seems she has these in her garden also as I've now got some growing too!

No you don't, we grew some for a wild flower garden, Never really got rid of them. Pinch out the faded flower heads to stop the seeds blowing about, but that does not stop its natural spreading.

I noticed this plant on the footpath near my house at the weekend thought it looked quite pretty for a weed so was interested in TGs post I will try and collect some seeds from it

Hi folks
I do not want to disillusion you but that plant is not as nice as it seems.
Let me first say that this is a 'macro' shot so appears to be quite large like a marigold but in fact is only about ¾" across.!

Here are a few shots I took of the plant tonight thus proving it is a weed that has self sown itself into my wall .
This is it tonight as a 'point & shoot subject (sorry for the quality but I think you will see what I am getting at)

Same flower head approx 24hours later.

This is where it has self seeded into: The hole is only about ¾" across.

Now I have had a request for seeds which you can have if it sets seeds but I do not know if they would be viable as I do not know if has been pollinated. Plus the fact there is only one plant at the moment although it looks like an other couple are on the way.
Personally I agree with Ace

I should be able to provide fertile seeds if anyone wants them, I have about 20 plants in the lawn.

I had these growing in my lawn at the old place. Tried for years to get rid of them But I did like the flowers but not in the lawn so transplanted some to a bank bordering the gate
