Is anyone able to identify this beetle for me (two images attached)? I have seen it my rhubarb, raspberries and Swiss chard - all of which are in the same area of my allotment. Another allotment has quite a lot of these beetles on their rhubarb plant.
I wondered if it was raspberry beetle. Although it looks similar to images I've seen on the internet I wasn't 100% sure.
Would be good to know if it was a friend or foe! If a foe, how best to deal with it....organically?
Any advice gratefully received
Thanks
Sue

a shield bug of some sort?

Dont think your beetle is a raspberry beetle
see http://www.thewcg.org.uk/pages/byturidae.htm
but cannot identify them. There are a few to choose from!

Thanks for the suggestion that this might be a shield bug - having looked these up I think you're right. I'd never heard of these bugs so have learned something new.

if it's one of these, I think you have to call the Authorities, and then move house sharpish
