Post by: Palustris on February 14, 2016, 21:12:28
If not then this message may be deleted.
Lovely 70th. birthday present from eldest. He edited and has had printed the stories I wrote many years ago when he was a lot younger.
The books are now on sale on Amazon and astonishingly we have sold some too.
Chuffed does not begin to describe the feeling!

Yes you are (if it is boasting) Well done and what a super present from your eldest. I've read one of your lovely stories you shared with me some time ago, but I'd love to see how one looks in print. Perhaps you could give us a title...

Have asked Dan if it is ok to post a link, waiting for a reply. Don't want to cause any problems.

Well done.

Just looked at the definition of boasting.
Boasting is to speak with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about one's achievements, possessions, or abilities

Nothing excessive about your pride.  You have done well.  What a lovely present.

It is not normally allowed to put a link to something you are selling, but perhaps you could PM someone and they might just happen to recommend having a look.

Or maybe a clue to the title and then we can have a google.

Fair enough. No links, but the books are called 'The Flight to The Betty' and 'The Ashton Road Gang'
And as far as selling concerned, we have priced them without any royalties so the cost is that of printing and nothing else.

What no kindle edition?

Then you get to keep most the money (apart from the VAT) and save the trees.

Bit of a problem in that those the books were intended for, so not have Kindle machines so they would not be able to read the rubbish. Me included.

Believe it or not there are about 4 more books in the pipeline. Just need sorting out, editing and finding illustrations for them.
Going to cost us a fortune to buy a copy of each for all the grandchildren, nephews and nieces etc.

I have a kindle app on my phone.  Do most of my reading on the phone now.  You can get the print much bigger and carry loads of books around in your pocket.

Lots of children and mouldy oldies have phones and tablets etc now.  You can beam the books around the world.  I would certainly consider publishing with kindle as well.  And it saves trees.

Just bought an actual kindle, mostly because on holiday the phone has a problem in bright sunlight.

Hi .J.
The first book is for say 10 to 12 year olds and is non-gender specific.
The Ashton Road Gang are for about the same age. They are the adventures of a group of 10 year old boys growing up in the North of England in the 1950's so I suppose they could be described as being for boys. Having said that, my daughters loved reading them.
The other books are more in the Fairy story genus. Not finished editing them though yet. Again for 10 to 12 year olds. Though the next book out my well be for younger than that, especially the first story which was written for a friend's 7 years old grandson.

Thank you

I wrote a book about my life in gardening starting when I first was a garden boy, We used to sell it when I did my talk "Memories of a Garden Boy" and 50p from each sale (£4.00" went to the BHF as I had heart surgery some years ago. We gave  the BHF just over £1000.00 but I stopped when I gave up speaking then we found the book on the internet at £10.00 plus posting. I have now attached it to my blog site so that anyone can download it is a button if you want to make a donation to the BHF.

We are not taking any Royalties on these books.
When I sell plants at various things I give the profits to the Flying Ambulance people. Never know when we might need one and living here we probably would since the Police have trouble finding this area.

Hi Palustris,  Please do not think for a moment I was suggesting you were making money from your books , it was just that I was hurt to find my books on sale at twice the price for someone to be making money from them. Mine were never published I paid a local printer to print 250 at a time .
Title: Re: Am I allowed to boast?

Never occurred to me. I was just pointing out that the price is up to Amazon who publish the things. Since I only expected Family to buy copies it seemed a bit cheeky to add more to the cost of the things.
Must be very irritating to see someone else making money from your hard work.
And now back to proof reading the next book.

I just read the book preview, sounds delightful and how do you come up with those names.
I couldn't resist plus I slipped in The Kingdom without a Dragon too!
Sorry you have to wait Jeannine, seems C19 affects all aspects.

Strangely the whole story began with Colonel Bludngutz and General Mayhem, who actually play very little part in the story. Then I was given a first sentence by someone. "It happened on a Tuesday" and it rolled out from there.
