Title: Can anyone help me with a monster mystery?
Post by: carosanto on September 19, 2017, 15:31:25
I recently moved to a house with a fairly neglected garden and unearthed , under some brambles what looks like a pineapple plant of some kind.  It has dark green spiteful leaves with traces of scarlet.  It will not be easy to dig out.  Will it ever be s thing of beauty, or should I take an axe to it.  It measures a meter across, about .25m high.
Have taken a photo but can't seem to post it.  We are in Cornwall of that helps

Have a look at Fascicularia bicolor. That looks like a pineapple plant.

We are so lucky to be able to grow special things like this here in Cornwall ! The red colouring in mine flares up even brighter late summer and the contrast of it's blue flowers in the heart of these red leaves is quite astonishing . In the right place it can spread quite a bit ( it takes a very long time though ), you could split it up , yes it is a bit tough, so wait till we,ve had some rain . It would be a shame to get rid of it .
