Was that him having his picture drawn? I didn't make the connection but now you mention it... Thanks for posting. He was on again later (Iwasn't awake before 8.00!) About 10 mins from the end of today's programme.

Lezelle, Tim is a longstanding member of A4A though not n here often now- I worked out from the programme that he must be 97 - hope I'm as able and lucid as him if I ever get to that age!

I view Tim as a hero, its due to the people like him that we have the freedom that we enjoy today.

For those who don't know Tim was a Battle of Britain pilot during WW2 flying Hurricanes at Tangmere, West Sussex.  I believe that he was shot down or crash landed once, and attained the rank of Wing Commander.

According to OH the other pilot was flying past the parachute away from land, at the height of the parachute so that the blast of air from the propellers would blow Tim towards the coast.  He would have approached above Time so not to suck him away, then fly directly at the same height to push the parachute towards land with the blast of air.  If Tim would land unconscious, he might drown in the sea but had a better chance on dry land.  A very skillful tricky manoeuvre and one that needs to be quite close to the parachute to work    The pilot may have needed to repeat that several times too.  Proper flying ace!
