Title: The Good News Thread 2012
Post by: Aden Roller on March 03, 2012, 01:33:56
Everytime I pick up a newspaper, flick on the tv or tune into the radio the news is all doom and gloom........  :(

So, I thought it would be good to share a few bits of good news to help lighten the load and see the better side of life.

It'd be great to hear what's gone well for you so far this year... or to hear of something good that has happened in your neck of the woods.  :)

I have just got a third lottie.

Found a son who I had lost contact with 20 years ago

Finished an impossible jigsaw puzzle.

Lost 3 ilbs weight this week.

I have almost had a nearly pain free day today.

Last week I found a piece of jewellry that went missing 6 months ago

It hasn't rained for two days.

It has been a good day .

What a great idea ;D

Today is my eldest daughters 20th birthday :)

Hubby, who is self employed has got lots and lots of work on and has had since the new year!

I have finally had an MRI scan, after years of back pain, (though I wasn't keen on the scan)

I have decorated and spring cleaned my kitchen, hall, stairs and landing.

My OH is, even as we speak, putting up a potting shed for me, at the end of the garden...tap, tap, tap go the tacks, into the roofing felt.

That's true love!  ;D ;D ;D

I might even make him some lunch, today!  ;D

Today I had a really long chat with a special friend ;D.

For those who have met me know that I'm a bit, shall we say, on the chunky side ;) ;D. I've lost 2 stone & plan to loose more. Thank you Weight Watchers ;).

I've had lots of time in the garden this week & 2 trips to the lotty where a very kind man pruned my gooseberries & redcurrant. Today I shall make him a cake to say thank you.

We may have some bantam eggs for tea if the racket they were making this AM is anything to go by ;D.

Freelance journalist daughter has plenty of work & youngest daughter set up a business making bath products & renovating furniture & Ditzy Doll is going great guns. Yesterday they sent their first order to Afghanistan.

All in all a good week.

Jeannine I am so pleased for you :-*.

Oh what a coincident..I had really long chat with special friend too... ;) :-* And..today my special friend treated me for a surprise pressie..and it was lovely girlie one...good way to bring some balance for other wise 'welly full' life of mine.
My on going battle with dodgy leg is getting better by the month..it is still giving me some grief but life could be worst. Other wise I'm reasonably healthy...I've got everything that one could need, so even that I sometimes give a good old rant, its only for let out frustration rather than being being ungrateful for what life throws at me.
Lottie is yielding some nice winter crops and sun is shining..  ;D 8)

Yesterday we had good news about my husbands illness. He has had three months of chemo for stomach cancer which was diagnosed in September (many of my a4a friends will know if they have read the listening post) .

He had a ct scan a week ago which revealed that the cancer hadn't spread nor is the tumour any bigger. On Monday he had a laporoscopy on his stomach to look at the stomach cavity where it was suspected he might have some tiny granular cancer cells. They washed out his cavity and examined these and they were all clear though as a precaution they have sent some for biopsy. The chemo has been effective on the tumour. We have an appointment with the surgeon next week to discuss surgery to have the cancer removed.  He may have more chemo and then will have to have quite radical surgery on his stomach, but it will be gone and hopefully will restore his health and give him the chance of a normal life span.  He obviously has a way to go yet, but it is a huge big ray of light at the end of a black tunnel. We are so relieved to have this chance.  Life is starting to feel good again. Love and hugs to all of you who have given us strength and support. busy_lizzie   :-*

I have re-read Jeannine's advice on growing sweetcorn and will resist starting seeds off until late April.

I have burnt loads of rubbish on my allotment in a bonfire (not so good that it suddenly rained) and sown more broad bean seeds.

We had a work party on the site on Sunday demolishing an ancient shed with the most incredible contents (eg 2 shattered vacuum cleaners, a tea service, rotting concrete rollers etc etc), all had a good laugh, dragged an elder tree out of the ground (begging its forgiveness, as you do) and the Sunday bonfire burned until Monday morning.

Plus our barn roof, corrugated iron, has gone to the allotment to make new shed, and we now have an array on the roof of solar panels that are feeding in electricity at the top tariff, because we just made it before the sudden December 12th cut off point.

And my pea seedlings are up in their gutters.

This thread has come at a great time for me- my son arrived back in England yesterday after 15 months away and we will see him on Tuesday- with his "new" girlfriend (they've been together over a year but we haven't met her yet-can't wait!!

My older daughter got her exam results on Friday- she's doing a Masters in Bath and said they were the worst exams she'd ever done but got over 70% in all of them.
And we went to see our younger daughter in her first uni dance show in Lancaster on Friday and it was great, then dodged the showers and hail yesterday for a lovely walk above Windermere.

Had a lovely weekend- lovely to hear everyone else's good news too  :D

And my brother in law is back home after open heart surgery after a couple of weeks complaining very loudly in hospital! They caught his condition in time and hopefully he will now be on the road to recovery.

Went for a cycle ride over the moors today and heard two curlews and saw a flock of lapwings.
It was lovely and sunny we could see right over to Edale and the start of the Pennine way and right down to the powerstations at Burton on Trent, but the birds really made the ride for us.

Some truly amazing Good news!

A couple of weeks ago, despite having warned him to lock it, my father’s new carer (a lad in his late teens) had his bicycle stolen from outside my parent's new home. We were not that shocked.

Unfortunately his bike was not covered by any insurance because it was left unlocked so I lent him a bike of mine so he could get to and from work.

That evening I made a request for information or return of the bicycle and posted this on Face Book (but didn't say whose bike it was).

This morning the stolen bicycle returned to the very same spot from which it vanished!

So what do you make of that?

I saw my Dr, day before yesterday, he wanted me to have some in  hospital tests, the phone rang yesterday  to give me the day, and it is today..48 hours from first mention to going has to be great news.

He also put me on a new pain regime, I have refused to take the morphine etc, anyway reluctantly I said I would try these new drugs for a month and I have had three fairly comfortable days..coincidence..??

Maybe I might get to swim with those salmon after all!!

Tests were not so good but it was suggested I get prescribed marijuana for pain.. I can't stop laughing about it, and I feel really daft and silly.

Goodness knows what I would feel like if I take it.. Anyway ti made my day.

We popped over to the lottie and my garlics and shallotts are growing beautifully. I planted them in the fall. I went overboard this year and got about 30 varieties from a garlic farm, just one bulb of each which gave me several cloves to plant, so was thrilled to see every single clove had grown, not one dud. Plus my four varieties of shallots were doing as well..yippee. It was an expensive trial so am really pleased it seems to be paying off.

Super news about the bike, odd but super neverthe less, and fantastic news about the mortgage, wow  that is something. Well done.

Skinny girl, never ;D. I lost some weight a few years ago & went to Elaine's M & S clothing party. The person who was doing the party hadn't seen me for ages & asked Elaine if I was anorexic. Today I have good news too. All the trees in the lane behind my back wall have been lopped, the ivy removed from the wall and next door's bamboo has been given a shearing on my side of the fence! The extra light which my garden now has is wonderful and I have a much wider view of the sky from my living room.

It's a week-end of spending (but I'm worth it  ;D) as I've also bought a new computer. Ordered yesterday and it will be delivered on Monday. My current PC is 7 years old and driving me nuts with its crazy behaviour so a new one has been on my list for some time.

Add to that - my dear friend and neighbour has been in with a bag labelled 'Queen for a Day'. The contents of the bag - a bottle of Bucks Fizz, an engraved wine glass, a 'Special Mum' coaster and a bar of J.D Gross dark chocolate mousse. Her own mother died a couple of years ago and she has adopted me. I feel blessed to have such a wonderful friend.
It has taken me forever to type this one-handed. My left arm is in a sling, but I am one happy bunny today anyway!

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology (and FB...) I've made contact today with a long lost pal and a pupil from years ago who I often worried about....but life is on the up for her and it's been great hearing her news.

So a "thumbs up" good day even if it was FB that helped achieve it.  ;)

Delighted to hear the skies have cleared for you tricia. A bit of sunshine and light can make the world of difference to a garden.  :)

But the best news is, no cut flowers (I don't like them), no fattening chocs, no "what shall be buy her this year" decisions as hubby has put it on a direct debit and the children will chip in each year.

Blessed with a lovely family.  :-*

True Luv bites................ ;)

Although dad is bed bound now as Mr C takes a further grip on his weakened body it was mums request to get him some knashers that fit his gaunt chops,so I arranged a fella from a local dentist to come to the house and fit him up so to speak.

4 days later it was so nice to see him sit up and enjoy chewing food as opposed to slurping chopped up
dinners, its the little things that are left for my mum and make her happy albeit an expensive exercise, she was so pleased and said"dads worth every penny Gaz".

To show his mental capacity is still there I rang just now and asked how he was,not good Gaz,but can you get me £5 worth of Lottery lucky dips, the Ol so and so still has marbles enough to try and win a few bob......bless.

The news is good:

After a 12.30am phone call for a doctor one arrived at 3am - the problem was my dad could not breathe but by the time the doctor arrived dad's oxygen levels were fine, blood pressure good and chest clear.

Two nights of staying over and all seems good.  :)

The cats infected eye is back to normal and the vet bill paid.

The rabbit's temperature is down from 40 and it's still enjoying a break at the vets while it recovers from "cat scratch fever".

(If only someone would listen when I fuss - I did say keep an eye on those two romping around the garden together!)
I just need to win the lottery then the vet will be happy too.  ::)

Had my shoulder 'op' this morning. Not so much an op as a procedure, really.  It's called hydrodilatation (video: http://vimeo.com/24303841 - not graphic!) In a nutshell my shoulder was x-rayed, anaesthetised, injected with steroids and then pumped full of saline until it 'popped'.  Not a particularly nice experience but hopefully one that will give me back a working shoulder! ;D

I've been suffering with leg pain since November and its been getting worst..in Good Friday Morning I had go A&E as it got scary painful..nothing like I've experienced before. The result for that visit was sympathetic 'ear' from dear doctor and promise that after Easter I would get call from physio... ::)..still waiting.
All this time I've resulted for self help..part of popping described painkillers. I've been doing all manner of stretches, exercises, wiggles, kicks...anything that would make me feel better..I've even been in Chinese massage. All that 'activity' has helped to cope but not cured. I might be suffering sciatica, like a trapped nerve pain...so that got me thinking... :-\
I got OH to pull my leg...literally.. ;D..just a another trial amongst others to see if the 'trapped' nerve would come untrapped...and...IT HELPS!.. ;D ;D ;D I had first full night sleep for months!..pain is not over yet but it has eased!  ;D ;D ;D So first thing this morning I was standing on step and letting my leg dangle down..we'll see if that has similar effect.. ;) Now I'm even thinking getting one of those tilting elevation boards that makes your whole body dangle upside down from you ankles.. :-\ Can't be waiting NHS for getting me better...girl's got work to do..

Yes Goodlife am a great believer in self help cos you can't depend on the N H S as waiting lists are massive :(good for you getting up and doing it for yourself, three yrs ago I was like a zombie with pain killer's didn't no what day it bloody was ,got up one day through all the pain killers in bin told DR to take me of half the tables that are not needed and Ive steadily got fitter swimming helped, and never take pain killers ,only the drugs that keep me OK! ;D hope you go from strength to strength  ;)

Pleased to hear you are home and on the road to recovery.

Take it easy and don't rush at anything - a few extra weeks to get back to normal is time well spent rather than rushing it and ultimately taking longer.

The plot will wait.... but it might be worth dropping a line to the allotments to let them know if you haven't done this already  ;)

Oh very posh.. ;) I think you do need..or should wear hat as the Queen will be there.
I attended 2 years ago Southwell Minster that held Queens birthday service..we were invited then by Sheriff of Nottingham. As the the Queen didn't attend to that it wasn't requirement for the hat..although you could..only 'dress code' for that was appropriate 'Sunday best'...in other words..local 'laadidaa' was there and you should try to look part and for press too.. ::)
It was nice that 'normal' people was invited too and the atmosphere is quite special...

Do enjoy yourself.. ;D

Hope you find your Sister in better health Lorna and do enjoy the Snooker.  I only watch the last day of it.

Have been to see a home nearer to us for me mom. Such a beautiful place and after an assessment they have agreed to take her. There is a top up fee but it will be worth it for Tony not to have to drive all the way to where she is now. His hips are starting to play up and its worse when he's been driving a long way.
Also if she has to go into hospital again then its only a walk down the road.
Just have to win some money now to pay the top up fee  :)

That's brillant news Shirl. Really pleased for you all and mom!!

Having family nearer and reducing the constant need to travel makes life much more manageable and everyone benefits in my opinion.

Looking after elderly relatives can take it out of you and leave so little time for anything else in life.

(Here's hoping the finances work out for you too).

My father enjoyed his 97th birthday today with lots of visitors and cards.

I couldn't think of what to buy him......there's nothing he needs or wants other than meals, conversation and peace.

But
When he & my mother were tucked up in bed I snuck in through their conservatory door (as I had left it unlocked) and set up a grow-bag on a tray with three 12" pots containing 3 cherry tomato plants plonked on the top. He is a keen gardener and still loves seeing things grow.

He was delighted when steered that way in the morning. Now looking forward to picking ripe fruit!!  ;)

Mom moves into her new home today. It has been quite a hectic week waiting to hear from the council as to wether or not they will fund her.Going out and buying her bedding etc.(the last home provided it)
On Thursday we got the call that they would fund her. We still have £40 per week to find for the top up but it will be worth it just to have her nearer.
She was brought up in the area so when she looks out of the window she will know where she is.
Will try to get a photo of her in her new room.
Today is so happy. Plant sale tomorrow and cats set free on Monday. Wish I had the energy of a 20yr old. ;D

Brilliant news Shirl. After my exciting trip to the Crucible last Sunday my son took me to Kent on Monday to see my sister who I am sad to say has now been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I spent 4 days with her son and daughter-in-law and was able to visit Joyce in hospital each day. I also visited 2 nursing homes with her son. They emailed me last night to say they have more to visit (inspect) this weekend. It is so important to find the right home. I wish your Mum every happiness in her new home. Sorry, I forgot this is the good news thread however, it is good news that my sister has a wonderful family to do every thing possible for her.

This morning I visited an old friend who has terminal cancer and not long to go. I was so pleased to find her relaxed, calm and chatty. A brilliantly brave woman and very much her old self.  :)

Seems strange to be putting this in the Good News Thread but for me it is good to know that my friend is calm and maintaining her sense of humour and the other traits that make her a special friend.

I know what you mean Aden Roller, I have the same feeling about my sister. Seeing her for 4 days last week made me much more settled. Within a few days she will be moving to a lovely nursing home. Nephew tells me that she has been much more cheerful last few days. We think due to her dementia she has forgotten what the Doctor's told her as she hasn't mentioned it since. Maybe a good thing. I hope your friend continues to be relaxed and chatty.

She is inspirational.  :)

A bit frivolous in comparison to some of the good news here but my son's Under 13s football team take on Barça tomorrow. Fortunately they'll also be Under 13  ;D

Cash point let me take some money out, overdrawn but not over overdraft limit.  Now we have loads of lovely food, as granddaughter coming for sleep over, and food as Mum and Dad off to watch Chelsea in a pub at Chelsea. (I hate football).  Got asked out to dinner by man as we were looking at the out of date food in lovely Morrisons, but said I wasn't allowed out. Wonderful bargains on out off date gourmat (how to you spell that) ready meals, that I don't like, but he does as lives alone (sob, sob).  Best offer so far, dinner with man with out of date food from Morrisons, I haven't lost my touch. He is also into cheap Sun holidays with his girlfriend (what a flirt). Roll on pension day, then I can pay my allotment bill and get out of debt.   ;D ;D ;D

Absolutely incredible day of footie, my son's team beat Barça 2-1 - it was their "D" team but he plays in a local side in a town with around 9000 inhabitants so it was very much David and Goliath - still can't believe it. They made it to the final of the tournament where they lost to Zaragoza and then celebrated like they'd won the Champions League - we're all still buzzing. Brilliant day!

Had a call today from the guy who works the other half of our lottie, telling me the council had just delivered a HUGE plie of compost at the top of the lane.  I thanked him for letting me know but said I wouldn't be able to go and get any of it today as I had so many other places I need tobe  Anyway, unable to resist, I decided to drive over after KIDZKLUB tonight- the weather was so lovely and it was nice and light still and warm, for a change.  When I got there, I found he'd only been and barrowed a huge pile of the lovely stuff right from the top of the lane and left it by the gate of our new half plot, which we have just taken on and are in the process of clearing. It must have taken him ages as it's quite a long treck.  That is truly kind, and I shall be thanking him in the morning.  I spent a very happy hour and a half in the peace and quiet of the evening filling up my now compost bin, courtesy of Freecycle.

Excellent - what a nice guy!

My lottie neighbour is often helping me too. He fills up my water butt & old bath when he gets the hose out to do his so I reciprocate. It saves us both time & effort.

A while back he rescued my Swoe and secured it in his shed as I had left it on the path when rushing to get back to cook my parents meal.

Recently he carefully rolled up the roofing felt that had been ripped from my shed in an overnight June gale   :o so I was able to do a quick repair to keep the shed watertight.

Generally, like yours, a good neighbour to have..... it makes all the difference.  ;)

Oh  Jeannine that's wonderful how you can laugh about it. I have a feeling my husband is getting Alzheimer's, I don't want to upset him by mentioning my feelings, but I think he needs to go and see the Doctor .its not easy asking him to make an appointment  to go because he is so independent.

Mine hasn't got Alzeimers as far as I know (but the husband of a good friend has) but if he ever succumbs I hope he is going to forget he doesn't like courgettes, squashes, pasta, snap peas, artichokes, too many green beans, spinach beet, yes - tapioca, semolina, funny leaves (salads that are not plain lettuce), skate wings, and a number of other things I forget for the moment because of course we can't have them.

A bit of good news: although my Thai daughter-in-law has just been refused her permanent visa to stay with my son on the grounds he does not earn enough money to support her (he does, and has done so now for three years), we have finally appointed a specialist immigration solicitor who thinks our case is so straightforward she has voluntarily cut her fees by £120 - even though I agreed to pay the higher rate!

June, for me there was a very long period of time when I suspected there was something wrong, then another period of time when I was certain there was something wrong.

I didn't say anything at first as I was not sure I was imagining it, but eventually when I was certain there was something wrong I did bring it up with John. But before I did I saw my Doctor on my own first then said he would be coming in and that he nay need a bit of careful handling. I suggested to my husband he was forgetting things and as there are many many reasons from low thyroid to ministrokes it needs to be checked as many of theproblems could be fixed. I never mentioned what I thought. The doctor took it from there, there were nany weeks of tests and Alzheimer's was one of several things is could have been. It is very hard to get a diagnosis and I doubt they would even suggest it in the beginning.

The diagnosis and Johns acceptance came over a long period of time, now he is OK with it. I get a bit worried when I see stuff on Tv with folks not knowing there family etc  I have told John as the progression in him is unusually slow he will have died from old age before he gets like that.. a fib.. but it has worked and he is not too concerned. So we laugh at that too.

Another blow for food eating, he has just eaten a crab salad, another first.

The really funny one thiugh is Wagon Wheels, he has stared buying them and he hated them with a passion.

Artichoke we have got past the skate wings and funny lettuce too..so thee is hope for your friend. Good luck with you daughter in law, rotten immigration, I hate borders.

Our garden is cat alley Doris & our chickens just stand & stare at them.

My good news is that at Weight Watchers yesterday I had lost 3lbs. A total of 3st 2lbs. Only 2st 6lbs to go to my maximum BMI. Yippee, that's less that 2.5 stone ;D & I still can't say that I've done much exercise & the last 2 weeks I've done very little with John being poorly.

Just had the second day on the trot without rain, so OH has been busy constructing manure and compost bays on my new plot.  Bless him, he doesn't "get" allotments, but he has been willing to help me with the jobs I would really struggle with.  I love my new bays, and if I just focus on them and don't turn around and look at the Somme in the rest of the plot, I can feel like a proper lottier!

He's a little gem like mine, gwynnethmary, who doesn't get plots either but puts his carpentry and clearing muscle powers in when needed. An interesting study tonight when we both went up to check for blight, not only on mine but a lady that is on holiday has asked the favour, he said "not a good year this year then?" as he looked at the greenery struggling. So they do pay attention eventually  :)

My good news   ::)

According to my mother we've not had a lot of rain so that's why the allotment isn't doing as well as usual she announced.  ???

I explained that it had done little else but pour for weeks and weeks. She disagreed as it was only the once my sister had been stranded in the floods and had to wade home (her partner dashed out and picked her up but my mother hears only the bits she likes the sound of).

So there we have it: The thoroughly soggy season is all in my mind.   :-X And what can't be seen clearly from the front-room window of my mother's bungalow doesn't happen....unless of course my sister says it does.  :(

I understand this - after prolonged rain, it is so humid that even a little bit of heat becomes opressive very quickly.  Dry heat is muich easier to tolerate.  I bet this is what happened to you.  Enjoy anyway - here it is just so dull, rainy, dark grey skies ...... now who needs to get a life ....... ;D

That Sorrento holiday does sound good  :) I have an old college friend who has just been there for a couple of weeks. Good recommendation as he was born in Sicily so visited his family further south but chose Sorrento as a base.

I managed just one day there during a car trip around the coast from Naples. Love the area.

Enjoy your family meet-up Caroline – I bet it’ll be frantic with everyone sharing news at the same time. Hope you have a lovely time.

Congratulations Sue! I won’t say “you must be crackers” as I read you are aiming for Adult Ed rather than the frenetic life of a primary school teacher. I’ve just done my time (36 years) so now life is a whole lot less hectic (I do have to remind myself of that fact quite frequently when caring for my parents!)

My news (daft as it may seem)…. My new indoor aviary arrived after an initial disaster as the first shipment vanished in a DFR/DHL distribution centre in Germany so I had to reorder. How can anyone lose an 84lb package?

My family decided I needed a hobby to fill the spaces when I’m not looking after my parents and when I haven’t the time to escape to the allotment. I bred foreign finches, budgies and cockatiels years ago. My idea of getting a couple of budgies to keep my 97 yr old father amused has escalated.  I’ve now started drawing plans for an aviary and birdhouse project for next spring.    ;D

After pretty bad referred back ache a couple of years ago, that showed up as severe hip ache and at its worst made it nearly impossible to walk more than a couple of hundred yards, I got sorted out by an excellent NHS physiotherapist.  To start with he diagnosed correctly that there was nothing wrong with my hip, where a private osteopath had failed to diagnose the problem entirely!

Have been getting a lot fitter since.  Last week I set myself the challenge to cycle to my son's place at 65 miles over hilly ground.  OH kindly agreed to fetch me if it was all too much which was very reassuring.  I did manage it.

Bad news - I now want a better bike with better brakes and more gears making going up hills easier to save a lot of walking :sunny:

I am so grateful that I could do it and that I had support, dinner and overnight to help me and finally overcome this health worry.

On Sunday I will be with all three of my children for the first time since my son went off traveling nearly 2 years ago.  :D We have seen them all separately and they've seen each other but we haven't all been together. The bad news is it'll be for a few hours only and by next Sunday it'll be just the two of us again! :'(

Oh Ccaroline I do sympathise.  I love the occasions we are all together and the children's partners have become part of the family too.  Hope you had a really happy time together.

Welcome to baby Joshua!  Good on you SueK!  Glad the bird paradise arrived at last.  This must be some structure Aden Roller!

September looks like making up for some of the disappointments this summer.  :icon_cheers:

Galina.... "65 miles" cycle ride :occasion14: Fantastic!

I've not driven for the last 38 years instead use a bicycle to get around. Anything more than about 12 miles and I get the bus or let the train take the strain.

You deserve a new bike after that achievement.  :glasses9:

I have now lost 4 stone in 51 weeks :icon_cheers: & as a pressy for getting there a lovely friend suggested I had a layered cut as I have very thick hair. I took the plunge on Friday. I think it's called a graduated bob, whatever it's called I LOVE IT. I'm no longer woken up in the middle of the night with hair in my face.

We picked 2 of the grandchildren up from school on Friday & the 14 year old was very complimentary but the youngest (aged 6) waited until mummy was putting her to bed & said, 'Have you seen grandma, she looks different & what about her hair. That's not grandma'.

Well done Galina, that was some bike ride & yes you do deserve a new bike.

So lovely to read everyones good news.

About a year after she was told she was being made redundant and 8 months after leaving that job my daughter has finally got a new job.  She had worked her socks of for the previous company so had been really gutted.  She did not feel that they had chosen the best staff to remain so she felt very bitter about it.  Those people who did the least work seemed to have the most energy left to blow their own trumpets.

Anyway she says everyone is so nice at the new company and so helpful and supportive.

It's lovely to read everyone's news, especially when it's been a challenging year.

My news is that I've been accepted onto a teacher training course (further education), starting next week!  :D
Currently feeling joy, anticipation and sheer panic, all at the same time! :)

How is it going SueK?

I have had nothing but bad news and bad luck for the whole year :-(  So I am just hoping that 2013 will bring better things! I will make some good New Years resolutions to give a boost to that!
It is nice to hear everyone else's good news though, makes me feel optimistic!

I'm sorry it's been a bad year for you and certainly hope things improve for you soon.  I started off with what looked like a bad year after a slipped disc in my neck got worse and risked paralysing my arm and shoulder.  I had a successful operation in March and felt like a new woman.  Brilliant.  I could dance, walk the dogs and garden again.

However this summer I started having increasing pains in my foot and various scans and X-rays show I need new feet so i'm back on no dancing, no walking and no gardening.  Bummer.   However I have fnally found a surgeon who understands I need 2 feet and is willing to operate.  That should happen in the New year so fingers crossed that works out well.

On the gardening side I have plans to make over the current veggie patch into nursery beds for home grown perennials as it's been just too cool and wet this summer to get decent crops on the north side of our house.    OH doesn't know it but the sunny side lawn is going to become a veggie plot.   That's something else to look forward to.

Chin up Antipodes and well done/congratulations to everyone who's lucky enough to have things to plan and look forward to.

Hey, Galina, still plenty of fear in abundance, but, almost 3 months in, I feel I made the right decision, especially now that I've had really good feedback for the first assignment and I've been on a temporary placement in Bradford: it's great to know that the brain still works.  :happy7:  The new year sees me start properly at a small FE college in West Yorkshire, working on numeracy with one group of 16-19 year olds and a group of adults.....!  Like I said when I enrolled in September, it's kill or cure! :toothy10:

Couldn't agree more, Antipodes.  As a family we are looking back on 2012 as being a "bad year" where we have struggled, but, on the other hand, we have reached a point where we are moving on.  Speaking for myself, I'm out of the terrible low (euphamistically speaking) I experienced earlier in the year and I just *might* be able to nurture the odd tomato plant again in 2013! :happy7:  Can't be bad.

Hope you don't mind folks but it seems time to move rapidly into the New Year so I'm going to have a go at putting 2012 to bed.

Pleasant dreams........
