Title: Buried bathtub as pond ?
Post by: mentallot on April 05, 2011, 14:48:53: If I can skip-dive an old fibreglass bathtub or two would they be viable as (non fish) ponds, and if so anything I need to consider ?

A liner is simpler, don't have to worry about getting everything flat and level etc plus we enjoyed the tub so much we wanted almost immediately something bigger with shelves etc, then had the trouble of hauling the tub out again ::)

Post by: green lily on April 09, 2011, 22:02:32: You'll definitely need more than a few sticks for wildlife to clamber in and out- and they need to be secure in wind etc. for frogs etc. Years ago I had goslings drown in one because I didn't think of that. They got in with their parent but couldn't get out. I think frogs etc would have a problem unless you kept the water level up to the brim. Dig it right in will be hard work and even harder to retrieve. Would it do as a dipping bath with a liner fr the pond?

Personally I wouldn't have a pond on our plot. There are too many children that come to the allotment. The parents have only got to turn their back for a second and they are gone.
What happens as far as insurance is concerned.Is the premium higher if there are ponds on site.

I should have added that ours is in our fenced and padlocked back yard because of the fear of children drowning.
