Title: delphinium Help
Post by: cambourne7 on July 10, 2007, 00:22:40
HI

I bought 3 delphiniums at the bbc gardeners world.

I have been looking after them and they had wonderful flowering spikes just starting to open.

Checked on them tonight and they have been stripped and theres about 30-40 slugs about  :'(

I need to know what to do - have i lost them? - Will they grow again next year?

I have put more slug pellets down but dont know what to do.

Unlikely!!

Cut the flower stalks  down to ground level (stalks only) and you might get another flush of flowers before the end of the year.

My dad always reckoned that delphiniums were the asparagus of the slug world.

The plants you bought Cambourne had probably been grown indoors, so the foliage would be quite soft, just what the slugs ordered!!

When planted outside the new growth in Spring is tougher, but you still need to have the slug pellets to hand.
