Title: Half-hardy Perennial
Post by: mrsnesbitt on April 03, 2007, 15:36:14
I am just ordering some plants for my window boxes & hanging baskets. I really like some marguirite Pinks, I really want plants which I can use again next year, will I be able to?

Thanks
D

If you mean the ones that are a sort of Chrysanthemum, I think you can use them next year if you protect them over winter. You might have to take them out of the hanging basket though, if it's in a cold wet place.

I'm a bit confused here ???

Do you mean Marguerite and/or Pinks ??? can't say I have heard of a Marguerite Pink

I would say Marguerites are too big for baskets/window boxes!

Wheras 'Pinks' would be OK assuming you mean these; http://tinyurl.com/2cuk4g

Then there are all the Dianthus/Carnation varieties to consider but these can grow quite tall as seen here; http://tinyurl.com/2cjmys and http://tinyurl.com/2pqh2c

I tend to grow these from seed but it is a bit late to sow them now for flowering this year.
