Title: Purple fronded fern name please
Post by: Mrs Ava on May 09, 2004, 22:16:12
Ava bought us a lovely purple fronded fern today at the nursery, but it had no label, and twas a bargain at 3 quid.  So, what is it called?  I felt sure it was something like a chinese painted fern, but of course, have no idea really!

Fanks clever peeps.

It was a bargain.  It's on my 'wish list' of plants.  I think it could have been Athyrium niponicum 'Burgundy Lace' (Japanese Painted Fern)

That's it, that's it!  Even bigger bargain as there are 3 plants in the one pot!  Fabulous!  Thanks Gillian, I shall write it down so I can sound all clever when peeps ask me!  8)

This fern seems to sell for a ridiculous variety of prices. I've seen it at anything between £12 and £4. It does seem to be quite variable, though (I have two of quite different shades) so perhaps the more expensive are a better colour. At £3 though, who cares!
