Title: my new beds
Post by: adam04 on February 22, 2006, 21:45:41
ive been edging off all the beds at the lottie. Not really to make raised beds just to try to make the paths neater and the whole lottie easier to look after.

I got loads fo reclaimed wood and they made me some stakes up. Not everywhere needed it as some areas already have some kind o edging around.

Just needs a lick of paint now before i finish knocking it into the ground.... :-\

The quality isnt the best as i took them on my mobile phone!

What it will look like when i have put the weed sheeting on the paths....

great job adam, you ain't half good at this!! you must be really pleased with the result, and like you say your lottie should be a doddle to look after. Inspiring stuff, thanks for the pix. Can't wait to see the pics of the beds overflowing with produce later in the year  ;D ;D

Adam, any elevation in soil level classes as a raised bed in my book ;). At least thats what i call the veg beds in my garden, and they are about the same height as yours.

Then again perhaps mine arent really raised beds. Never mind, whatever you call them they look good and do the job. You'll find managing the space much easier with them than without them. :) ;D

Well Done! :)

Really pleased to see these pics, Adam, as that's exactly what we have been doing on our plot last/this year!  Reckon it will make life easier for weeding and won't be so disheartening working a bed at a time!!  Using exactly the same membrane on paths too....... what a clever lad you are ::)

Adam/ Jen I've missed the stuff about the Ebayplastic ground covering. Can you give me a link please as I'm doing paths at our new plot next weekend.

Hey graw. i will give you the link to the shop on ebay where i got mine from. Its preety cheap, plus its free p+p. I got mine a little cheaper than the stuff in there cos i saw it cheaper elsewhere but when i told the guy forgot to mention that they wanted postage which made it more expensive...... ;D

Still cheap tho. If not try Kays. they are good apprantly.  You want 100gm/m stuff if your using it to walk on with no covering.

Hi, Adam
Just logged in and found your new raised beds, great idea and agree with the motivation of having a tidy plot, but as we're not in a perfect world can I inform you to be VERY thorough in checking your edgings each new day? Though it is a great idea it is also a lovely stop off point for our slimey friends. They love to hide by the sides of the edging and if you are not meticulous in inspection your crop will be in the belly of our little friends. Good look and be sure to do three important things, inspect, inspect, and inspect

if thats the case then i have a fair bit of sand in one corner of the plot. i will run that along it. or put maybe a run of coarse ash or something like that they wont like too much.
