Title: Turnips and swedes
Post by: Mrs Ava on May 13, 2004, 13:05:08
All germinated and growing nicely under a chicken wire tent.  If I uncover, will the pigeons eat them?  Not that I am paranoid about the darn pigeons, but we have every pigeon in Essex coming to lunch daily on our site and I have already had to super net my peas to keep them off!  So far they are totally disinterested in the salad crops and other roots, but as turnips and swedes and cabbage like, just wanted to check.

No probs, DB, all you need to do is cut out breast of pigeon, rest ain't worth the bother, so you can do that without all the plucking!  ;D

I have never noticed pigeons bothering with turnips and swedes but maybe a couple of lines of string(not black cotton) would deter them?.

At least we all now know where the ones from Trafalgar Square went to :)

Stephan.

Okay, string I will try tomorrow.  I want the chicken wire to protect my newly sowed peas cos no sooner do they poke through, the pigeons decimate them!  There is a Moorhen that wanders around also, pecking away, does big poos!  ;D
