Title: Pass the Parcel
Post by: Jayb on February 26, 2014, 12:47:05
Seeds obviously! I feel the need! Who’s up for it?

The need for seed! It does keep us off the streets.
Me please.
Where's goodlife? Probably " at one" with the seed circle seeds.
Such fun!

:laughing7:  I might be able 'stretch' for few seeds.... :icon_thumright:

No I wasn't 'at one' as yet...just been scrubbing chicken's shed and flooded (purposely) the floor so I could get it all really clean.. :drunken_smilie:...I'll be getting new lot of chicks this spring.. :icon_cheers:

Great :icon_cheers:  :toothy10:

I'll leave this open a little longer while I put the parcel together. I'm not sure of the mix yet but likely a lot of home saved seeds, a couple of years old but germination should still be ok.
Any particular interests or wants?

  hope you are feeling better and well on the mend  :happy7:
You sent extra seeds with The Seed Circle seeds, would you like them added to this parcel, or wait for Jeannine's? Although Jeannine's might be on hold for the moment. Or do you have something else in mind, happy with whatever you would like to do

I should have said too that I can easily postpone this parcel if Jeannine wants to go with hers, or I can just add to it.

Yes please, I'd like to join in if it's still going on. I have a rather large bag of heritage stuff that I cleared out so can add quite a few of those into the parcel; lots of HSL stuff in there that I rescued when they were clearing out old stock and I sowed a load of it and saved from it.

Welcome.
The basics are the seed parcel sets out from here and travels around everyone in turn. Choose what seeds you would like from the selection. Some varieties are bagged in individual portions, but many aren't and you will need to have a number of small envelopes or little zippy plastic bags to place seeds in. If you are choosing quite a few varieties it can be quite time consuming bagging and labelling your packets. Add your seeds in and send the parcel on it's way, something I forgot to price for (£3.90) is make sure you send it signed for so we know it is sent and delivered. Sadly several parcels went missing in the past and this should help keep them from getting lost.

I'm starting the parcel predominantly with vegetables, a few fruit and even less flowers. There's a mix of bought and saved seeds, many are heritage and open pollinated varieties.

I'm aiming to keep the weight at under 2kg, which would be £3.90 for Royal mail 2nd Class signed for (until Jan 2015). If it goes over 2kg it gets silly expensive with Royal Mail. Perhaps one of the other delivery services might work out cheaper?

Amazing how the seed packets mount up. Unfortunately I may need to take out some of the Sweet corn, peas and beans to keep the weight down. I've some from the seed circles and rather than add them in as many have already have them, I can list them here and if anyone wants them I'll add them in?

2Kg of seeds is quite a good size packet.  Not sure you will find something cheaper.

It would be good to get to double figures, I'm pretty sure Ruud wants in too. Is anyone up to posting overseas? I could add in some funds or perhaps post straight to him?
I'm aiming to post the parcel at the beginning of next week, although I'm still juggling what I can fit in.

Would it not be better if the person charged with posting to Ruud (Netherlands I think) emailed him first with a list of seeds available and then just posting the ones he would be interested in?  Perhaps that would make the packet lighter - however I am not sure what the postage to Europe it.  All I know is that it cost me four or five times the value of the selection boxes I sent across the pond last year.  Won't make that mistake again.

yes, good points :icon_thumleft: Though going through list is not quite same than diving in to the real thing. I'm happy to chip in with postage to Ruud if you let me!

This swap will be for a general swap with a wide content; it contains seeds from all the main groups including some flowers, but has no room for peas and beans! I tried every which way but to keep the parcel under 2kg I just couldn't fit everything in.

So I have a second parcels, jammed with the peas and beans waiting to go, I’ll start a new thread if you’d like this one to come to you too. Just add your name on there and pm me your address if I don't already have it.
