Title: Harvesting winter squash

My winter squash plants look as though they are dying back - is it too early to harvest or is anyone else doing this yet?
Now the fruit are starting to show they are more likely to be nicked from the plot if left there...
I have Queensland Blue and Urichi Kuri but don't want to pick them too early.
Any advice please?

If you want them to have any depth of flavour and store well you need to leave them on as long as possible.   Don't know how you stop them being nicked tho.

If you want to stop people stealing them, put up a sign saying DANGER SPRAYED WITH CHLORPYRIFOS NOT TO BE PICKED UNTIL 1/10/2019

I think Uchiki Kuri is especially early and probably can be harvested already if the plants are beginning to die back and the stalks are corky. I don’t know about the other one.
