Title: Jam Jar labels
Post by: claybasket on September 09, 2013, 20:12:53
Well am making more jam, and friends and family have been very kind with empty jars ,only problem is getting the sticky gum of the jars, even when the labels have come away, I tried scraping with a knife OH soon put a stop to that!  :BangHead: nail varnish remover! ,but I was rooting about under the sink found a pk of Brillo soap pads! I have no idea how long they have been there, anyhow thought I' d give it a go I had nothing to lose WOW!! IT WORKS! :blob7: the awful gum just came away with a few  rubs only another 100 pots :toothy10:

It's that time of year  :happy7: Completed my second batch of jam this week....there was me searching through all my 'acquired' jam jars today for the ones which didn't need the labels scrubbing off!!!  A quick run through the dish washer and I was ready to go!

I use a bit of white spirit on a piece of kitchen paper, then a good wash!

WD40 also works well for getting rid of that gum!

Cheap old aftershave, which is basically industrial alcohol works well, use the old stuff that the perfume has evaporated from otherwise you end up smelling like an over fifties divorcee on a speed dating walk.
