Title: Morelle de Balbis tomato
Post by: ladycosmos on February 11, 2017, 12:48:08
I have got seeds from the Morelle de Balbis tomato, the Litchitomato.
The name is solanium sisymbriifolium.
Are the plants as dangerous as told? Dangerous in that way that the tomato plant has big thorns all over the plant. And what is the best way of growing them?

Hello ladycosmos

I grew them last year from seed supplied by Galina - a good write up here by her if you scroll down a bit.

I did read they were too dangerous to plant out, but I didn't find that to be the case - just a bit of caution required.  They made lovely plants outside for me and kept flowering right into the end of Autumn, but I didn't find the flavour of the fruits too good, only once or twice felt I getting a kind of intense taste, watery and bland otherwise.  Maybe it is better to grow them under cover like Galina did for the taste.
