Title: What is this plant please?
Post by: galina on May 28, 2017, 13:39:51
Looks like some sort of solanum with pretty purple flowers.

Do I buy it a trellis and cherish it - or do I eradicate it quickly - what is it please?  It has sprung up next to the fence, presumably from a dropped bird plop.

Would appreciate identification.

I suggest woody nightshade (Solanum dulcamara). The leaves seem wrong for deadly nightshade.

If that is what it is it may be better to grub it out unless you particularly like it. :happy7:

Thank you Ed.  The picture in the second reference is just like it.  Never knew that nightshades could grow so tall.  It's not the deadly type, but not too good for eating, so it had better go.  But it is very decorative all the same.  I appreciate the identification.
