Hi Folks

Just joined today! ;D

Am based in Essex and this will be my second year of allotmenteering after plucking up enough courage to give it a go.

Every minute has been worthwhile, even clearing my plot which took me about 3 months, once I'd cleared the whole site of everything from empty slug pellet bottles, concrete fence posts, chimney breasts, brambles etc.

Not to mention "chaining myself to the railings" after everyone in our Borough received eviction noticies! Well not quite chaining myself, but getting involved in petitioning and attending council meetings to save our site which I'm pleased to say has been succesful. yippeee.......

So much has happened in the last 12 months, I can't believe it myself!

Anyway on this miserable wet Saturday, thought I'd just say hello?

No doubt speak to some of you soon.

Fingers crossed for a dry day tomorrow! ::)

Hello Greenman (sure you've only come from Essex?) ;D ;D and welcome!

Well done for sticking out with your council! Here in Birmingham I met a lady who stood in front of bulldozers to stop them wrecking more of the allotment site she gardens on - and it was one that was featured in the Lottie Programme which was repeated on the tele the other night, too.  Apparently in the past 20 years the number of council allotments has been halved..although they got some sort of stay-of-execution, they're still not sure of their future.

Hope you enjoy browsing - check out the Gallery.Fab pix! And try to find Eric's Kamikase snail if you can - blows your mind (well, see what it did to our OzZiE...) ::)

You any good at panto's btw? Casting tomorrow and we're doing Robin Hood, written by Hugh, with ad-libbing by everyone else...lots of room for a  man in Lincoln Green in Sherwood - Lishka

Hi Greenman,

I'm a newbie myself.  Only been here a few days.  You will like it here, they are a great bunch.  Well done with standing up to your council.  Our village has been fighting ours for the past few years to stop a housing estate being built on our fields, thus joining us to the next village, and so far we are winning. :)  Good luck with your lotti.....Pat

What a fab welcome, thanks folks and look forward to speaking with you again soon :)

Just to let you know Essex Girl (EJ) my allotment is very close to the Chafford Hundred development near to Lakeside. There are only around 40 plots on the Hogg Lane site, with 99% take up.

Made some excellent friends there, all from different backgrounds and age groups. Even been talked into buying some Xmas raffle tickets, the draw for which is next sunday......wonder if I'll win the "round the world cruise" or onion hoe?!

Feeling pretty poorly at the mo, with some sort of tum virus but managed to walk down there for a quick look ....always a good tonic!

Hope you all have a fab xmas and new year.

Hiya, just droped in to see how things are on this site. Thanks for all the welcomeing remarks. Robin, did I upset you or are you a moderator.  Alishka, I am not quite a lighting tecky I must confess to digging my plot by lamplight many years ago 8).  I chose my handle from my winter hobby of making, collecting and restoring old lamps. Cant wait for the good weather to get back up the lottie for all that peace and tranquillity.

Hey! A Mild drinker - don't come across too many of them, these days..remember I used to drink in a pub where, if one asked for "a pint and a half of bitter, please" - you'd get given a pint of mild as a matter of course with the poncey half of bitter served up a bit reluctantly afterwards - Lish
