Title: Suttons "Garden Bargain Lucky Dip"
Post by: winecap on December 27, 2017, 18:28:16
Hi. Does anybody have any experience of the "Garden Bargain Lucky Dip" from Suttons? They claim to offer £150 of mystery goods for £25, or £75 of goods for £15. Any thoughts or experience?

I got an email from Dobies about the same thing and decided not to bother!

I did one for a different company a few years ago and got a really motley selection of tat.
Several packets of walking stick cabbage seeds which never grew, some potatoes cleaning gloves (?!!), some really tatty cotton gardening gloves, an apron with pockets for things poorly made in sacking material, some really tatty thin plastic pots etc etc.
It did contain one nice trowel so I basically paid £10 for a £4 trowel for which Aldi charge £2.49 and a lot of rubbish all said to be worth £50.
Bet the council were not best pleased at having to take it all away from my bin.
Personally I think the stuff in poundland is far better value.  Their leather patchwork gloves from the DIY section are fab.

Would you buy a pig in a poke?
If you wish to clear your garage, try asking your neighbours for £15 so that you deliver whatever you fall over first.
As a retired retailer, perhaps I need to declare an interest.
But I have decided not to take advantage of Suttons "kind offer"!

Thanks for your responses, though it seems most are not convinced that this would be the bargain it claims to be. I decided to go for it. Will let you know how that turns out.

Do post the results.  It will be interesting to hear what came out of the dip.  Fingers crossed for something good.

Ok. Mystery parcel arrived. Contents as follows -
2 27L  flexitubs
1 Luxury kneeler
2 Herb Garden Squares - each 60x60x25cm divided into 4 pockets
1 Seed Tin
9 packets of flower seeds -Calendula, Wallflower, Viola, Aster, Pansy (x2 varieties), Linum, Petunia and Cornflower. List price -£29.53
2 Packs plastic coated garden wire for tying.
1 Pair leather/cotton gardening gloves
4 Slug traps
1 Plastic measuring jug
1 Pack of 18 peat pellets
5 small propagators (trays with clear lids) primed with peat pellets.
10 "half size" lightweight seed trays.
6 garden ready plants in 3 inch pots - 2x dianthus barbarini, 2x digitalis dalmation 2x achilea

Well, I don't think I did badly at all. There is nothing that will get thrown away. That then was the £25 mystery parcel. As pointed out they are doing £5 off at the moment, but with £5 delivery it was £25 delivered. I think its quite a good way to sample some things you wouldn't normally buy as well as perhaps picking up some things you would have bought anyway. For instance I don't think pansy seeds at 20p each (£4.99 for 25 seeds) would have been on my shopping list but now I have them I'm looking forward to growing them.
