Title: Lovely courgettes
Post by: Les_Woof on June 08, 2004, 09:56:20
Well,

What can I say, Saturday we reeped the benefits of our very first home grown courgettes.

We harvested 6 courgettes all about 5"-6" long,  2 of them went into the girls' lunch (lasagne), and Sophie and I had a snack of sauted courgette. I didn't butter or pepper them just gently tossed them in a hot pan.

They were beautifull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait for the rest of the veg to come along.... All that hard work will soon be rewarded.

Take care

Les.

Sophie ate some of them raw before I had chance to throw them in the pan............

She said they were great a lot tastier and fresher than shop bought, it was only minutes between harvest and eaing.

I personally have never eaten raw courgette but the next lot might just get munched out there in the lottie.

Wow - lucky you Les. When did you sow them?

Never thought of eating raw Courgs. Must try it when I have mine. Mum sowed some extras for me, so I'm only getting the plants tomorrow.

Raw courgette is great in crudites, with spring onions, celery etc., but I prefer mine cut into "allumettes" and stir-fried.

Aqui

we sowed them in 3" pots at the end of Feb, and transplanted them into grow bags in the "Wilko special greenhouse" in mid April.  So all in all about 14/15 weeks from seed to produce.

It is our first produce in our first year so they were really special.

Gilga, we are having stir fry tonight allthough we will have to use shop bought courgs as the other aren't quite big enough yet, but come the weekend I think they will be somewhere near.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yum yum,

 :D

Try doing them in ribbons with a potato peeler(the new Type).Or as the Greeks do them lightly battered and fried.

Just to rub salt in- they're good grilled on the bbq, brushed in oil.

My courgettes have been coming on beautifully in my home garden, but today when I went out to have a look at them noticed that in one particular plant, one of the leaves has started to look a bit white.  Please don't tell me I have mildew! ???   >:( busy_lizzie
