Title: Oxygen levels?
Post by: adam04 on August 31, 2005, 22:53:42
would thre reasonably large pumps shooting a jet of water about 3 ft into the air, tyou know the kind, be able to provide enough oxygen in the water for a few medium sized fish in a 220 cubic feet pond??

there will be no ledge in the pond, all straight sides, so no option of oxygenating plants!

Hi Adam.

I'm certain that your fountain will help to provide enough oxygen for your fish - In fact I'm almost certain that there will be ponds out there of a similar size supporting the same amount fish without  having a fountain at all.

How deep is the pond and how big is the surface area? I know that some oxygenaters can live in depths over 1.5 meters (Approx 5 feet in old money).  I currently have Parrots Feather & Hornwort doing very well at around 4 feet.

And then if you're still worried there is always the option to buy an air pump (£10 max on e-bay)

Good Luck

Tony
