Title: Solar power
Post by: lezelle on July 01, 2019, 08:31:56
Hi Ya, I have purchased a solar panel to charge a car battery so I can run a 12volt water pump to run water around the plot. I had help from a friend who advised me to use a control box to stop overloading and also install a plug socket as the battery, I used to carry it about, stays where it is. I tried the pump using an extension lead and it works brilliantly. I am please with the system. I am now getting a light for the back of the shed. Has anyone else done or doing similar?

I have some cheap solar powered security lights they come as a pair. One on my house front door and the other I put on my shed door. It will if you know how unclip, then I use it in the shed. Back outside to do its job and recharge.  https://www.amazon.co.uk/PQZATX-Rechargeable-Decoration-Security-Waterproof/dp/B07RKZZHP4/ref=sr_1_16?crid=1ZOE80OJIN9T9&keywords=solar+security+lights+outdoor+motion+sensor&qid=1561977703&s=gateway&sprefix=solare+secu%2Caps%2C216&sr=8-16

Hi Ya, cheers ace, I have some similar to those around the house as well. I do have two still in the box to put up round the back. They are good. I did consider putting one down the plot for security but there are houses nearby and I thought it may give any thieves or suchlike a way of seeing what they are doing. We have had some one pinch goodies further up the top of the site but were seen using torches and scared off. Mind not every help your selfer comes from off site some are on site. I know one for sure and am a bit wary of another. I have had trays of plants go walk about. I could look at wiring my solar charging panel up and give them a boost. Makes me smile just thinking about it. Happy days.

I do have a portable inspection light  that I  hang in my awning. It is rechargeable and I sometimes use the briefcase solar panel to charge it. About the same price as your light. The good thing is if the sun ain't shining it still works. My allotment security light plus an Aldi alarmed padlock should deter the thieving scrotes. I don't think it has yet as no break ins have happened, that is not to say somebody hasn't tried. The sound of that padlock going off and the light coming on would make the buggers run.

Hi Ya, You have given me room for thought Ace with reference to security. I will have a look at the alarmed locks. I have 3 so called security locks but that only allows for more damage. Some on our site do not lock the shed as it lets them see in. I have some quite special stuff in mine and some can cost a bit. Though I have insurance though the site they can be very reluctant to pay out and have more excuses than you can shake a stick at. Still I will look into it. Cheers
