Title: Potatoes in new raised beds.
Post by: northener on January 08, 2009, 18:00:44
Got 2 new raised beds built. Used scaffold boards so beds are 10" deep, intend growing Potatos in them. What would be the best way? I was thinking to fork the ground thats there, then put the spuds in and cover with a mix of manure and compost to fill the beds up. Any thoughts?

We dig two long trenches, lay the seed spuds in the bottom, cover them and earth up as necessary.  We also give a final mulch of well rotted manure (safe stuff lol) after having watered well.  This, together with the top foliage which by then is rampant, keeps the tubers from drying out.

We have had fewer problems with potatoes growing (apart fron blight) than any other veg.
