Title: Elephant garlic bulblets
Post by: Tiny Clanger on June 30, 2020, 14:33:09
I've just harvested our 3 elephant garlic plants, first time I've grown these. They've done quite well, did not get the rot and also produced a handful of small half inch or so bulblets. Is it worth planting these out now to grow on for cloves next time (or later)?  If so, would it be best to give them a quiet corner in the plot or pot them up? If in a pot, how many to a pot?  :blob7:

Well... as a natural method of division/propagation they should produce bulbs in time... not sure how long though.. somebody will!

I've been trying with these but only found out this year that they take two years to grow.
The ones planted last year are now just looking poorly!
Look forward to getting some advice.

Thats normal PKL. Its garlic harvest time TBH I've had mine in the same pot for years    Will have to tip out and see what I've got. Will repot and grow on next year and see what I get. Thought about putting on plot but don't want them splitting if it gets cold over winter.

I think two years is probably normal. I put some in a pot last year and this year I had rounds. Quite good sized bulbs but not split. I’m guessing they should give normal cloves next year.

So I think worth putting in a pot somewhere and forgetting about them for a year, then perhaps plant out after that.
