Title: Chickens and sourdough?
Post by: pumkinlover on August 20, 2014, 13:14:50
Just started having a go at sourdough.
It seems that I have some wasted starter as even with saving some for next culture there is some left. Does anyone know if it is OK to give the chickens. I was going to cook it first so does not have the yeast but was worried about the acidity?

Yes they can have it...though I would mix something else in before cooking it. How about some porridge oats..it would make the chicken's 'bread' crumbly and more 'tummy' friendly.

We make special "chickens' bread" (or sometimes cake) with the ends of bags of flour, or any baking ingredients that might go a bit stale.  Mind you, I'm more likely to give it to my neighbour's chickens when we look after them, since he regularly gives them scraps.

If you add some "Value" frozen sweetcorn to the mix, they'll go mad for it.

Thanks to both of you. They have enjoyed some but this time I have managed not to end up with so much spare!
