Sad day yesterday
« on: February 06, 2004, 10:55:00 »
A man in my office died yesterday.

One minute he was working, the next he had a heart attack and was gone.

I didn't know him very well, but it was so sad to see everyone else so upset. He lived for his job, so at least he died doing what he enjoyed and it was quick so I hope he felt no pain. He wasn't close to his relatives - his workmates were his family.

It was so beautiful in the afternoon, though, it was like being at a wake - everyone was talking about their memories of him. There was such a karma of love going round the office. He'll never be truly gone as he'll always be in the hearts and minds of those that loved him.

Please send out some love and support to those that knew and loved him. :'(

Hi aquilegia. How tragic, and yet,as you say,he died where he knew he was part of a family that loved and respected him.My dad died the same way of a very sudden, massive heart attack. It hurts like hell at the time but when you look back,it is by far the best way for them as they know very little about it.

My sympathies to you all,and may I add how nice that there is such a good bond between you all. These days it is rare to find people who work together and also get on so well.

I will be thinking of you all today, and at his funeral. He was a lucky man to have known you all,and you him.

Hello Aquilegia,

So sorry to hear the sad news of your workmate.  One consolation is that it was quick for him but must have been very difficult for you and the rest of your colleagues to bear.  It sounds as if you are a very close  community, which as Margaret says is probably very rare these days.  At least you can comfort yourselves with the thought that your late colleague probably looked upon all of you as his extended family.  My heart goes out to you and your workmates.

We are thinking of you Aquilegia, and all your workmates.  My dad also went with a bang as he arrived at work, I don't think we will ever get over it, but you learn to live with these new feelings, and it is amazing how many great memories come flooding back, sometimes at the strangest moments.  As you say, he will never be gone, not whilst you all have good memories of him and remember him.

Hope this all makes sense....sometimes me and words don't mix terribly well.

thanks for all the support. Everyone that knew him well has been sent home today and they are being offered counselling.

I like working here, the work's not great, the pay's terrible, but they are such a lovely bunch of people.

And cyber hugs right back to you Kate.
