garlic & rot
« on: July 08, 2005, 16:07:21 »
Hadn't been to the plot for a few days, so when I went yesterday, I thought I should pull my autumn planted garlic up - the leaves had gone yellow. However, the bulbs had started to rot. I was thinking that it could be white rot, but perhaps, as it is getting to the end of the autumn planted garlic season, and that autumn garlic doesn't keep as long, I was wondering if it was just a decaying rot. A couple of the bulbs, the mould was actually green. I think that the garlic may have been watered by the sprinkler. Do you think this was white rot, or just a normal decaying rot?

Are the bulbs themselves squishy?
If not, it's probably just that the bulbs have been left in wet soil and the outside tunic has started to decay. If the bulbs are hard, lift them all, dry them off and you are probably OK. If they are squishy, then I don't know as I haven't had that problem.

They didn't really feel all that squishy, just hoping it was end of life decay
