Anyone ever dug a well? There used to be quite a lot on my site at one time, from what I've been told, and it would be an interesting project for when I have time. I have quite a high water table so I wouldn't anticipate having to go down more than a few feet.

If its a council plot yes they will charge you for their water,
If it a privite land they will still try and charge you for the water.
Mum and dad had a smallholding and even their spring ( no mains water or sewage drainage provided by local water board) they still use to get bills every so often for estermated water etc used.
So if you find you have a spring ( well) dont tell anyone about it and keep it covered.
