Aqua dulce broad beans sown in October last year.

Lettuce (started harvesting them) in the greenhouse with sweet pepper plants in between. When the pepper plants get bushy, the lettuce will be gone.

Painted lady are good if you like runner beans; i grew them for several years, then decided that I prefer the climbing French beans.

We always do lots of french climbers, usually around 90 plants of Rakkers (a Dutch type, very suitable for freezing), we are still eating last years. Just wanted to try painted ladies for a change in addition to the french climbers.

Gorgeous looking lettuce in your greenhouse Ina!  And wonderful broadbeans.  My winter planted ones have pods now, but they are still a good couple of weeks off yours!  What about your flower beds Ina?  'Bout time we saw some of this years growings.

Cheers Ina  :) mine were sown in November. Best I've done with autumn- sown ones, definetely benifit from being sheltered from the wind   :)

They all look brilliant,how come you all plant in November  ??? on the packets it says springtime doesn't it,sorry this probably sounds a dumb question  ::)are they in a heated greenhouse in November.

This is how mine were sheltered, with bubble wrap.


Bambi, these are aqua dulce broad beans, they are for sowing in October and live through the winter but some protection against freezing east winds (in Holland) helps them. Last year mine had no protection and were a bit slower than this year.
Two reasons I like to grow the autumn sowing type of broad beans.
Harvest before the black lice get really bad and have the space available early enough for growing more summer things.
