Rotation of sunflowers
« on: May 20, 2005, 19:37:21 »
Where would these fit in if i wanted to include them in my crop rotation? Im thinking brassica bed for nitrogen to grow the leaves and stalk? Is this correct?
Thanks, John

I stick mine in where there's space. Rotation? Never entered my head.

Could always use them with climbing beans or peas - I'm sure the sunflowers would benefit from the nitrogen + they'd supply the beans/peas with all the support they needed, but you would have to stake them first.

You'd best check to see if they exude growth inhibitor though.

Hello again Ciaran !   ;D  You're welcome.  Hope you remembered to pinch the tops out to make 'em big and bushy!   ;)

No worries Ciaran.  You'll still get lots of lovely flowers, but on lanky stems !   :)
