Cant help with online courses, a work collegue of mine has done a couple of home study courses, she has done one of the RHS Gardening courses - which she said was good.  You may be able to get more info from the following website if you search on 'gardening' and enter your postcode comes up with various courses and costs.  Some you can pay in installments, I think she did hers but not sure.

the following gives details of the RHS home study courses

Hi flower - try some of the local colleges?  Park Lane in Leeds seem to have the monopoly on City and Guilds and RHS ---- but not online; hey, half the fun is the other students!

Good luck - Gavin

Hi Piglet, Have you tried Googling for an online course, it might be worth a try.  On Google go to Advanced Search, type Online Gardening Course in the Exact Phrase box, in Return Pages click on English, fill in the other boxes as you see fit then Search.you might get lucky!  ;D

I'm looking to start with the IHRS very soon, studying for the RHS General (and a few others to follow). It's not online, but it is home study, or distance learning. Is this any help to you?

The course costs in the region of £350 but you get full support, books and marked assignments as you progress.

I've looked at a few other distance learning sites, and they are fairly similar in content and approximately the same price. Some of them do a whole host of different courses that you may find appealing.

http://www.ihrs.ac.uk

I've just received a prospectus in the post. Nothing radically different from the website, but still useful to have.

Also:

http://www.hccollege.co.uk
http://www.englishgardeningschool.co.uk

I've picked out these based on the variety and quality of their courses. There are others. A google search of 'garden design courses' usually brings up a good selection.
