I've read the article and it's very interesting.  I've been trying round here to get people who lives in flats, student digs, folks with no gardens, etc onto the vacant plots. 
Allotments were on the front page of our local rag this week as one of the reporters has got an allotment and has done an article.  She's very young and the photographer also has her own plot (near me) so they are trying to raise the profile of allotments as not being necessarily an older persons' pastime
I Hope it works.
I am pleased today as we are organising our lotty open day and the council's composting team have agreed to come along and do some composting workshops.  They are a right laugh and turn what could be a boring subject into a bit of fun whilst getting an important point across  :)
