Radish and Mustard Leaf Attacked
«
on:
May 04, 2005, 09:41:25 »
My Radishes (Falaboyant) and Mustard Leaf have been attacked by something.
There are no signs of little vermin on them, but they have small holes (pin sized) through the leaves... the radishes themselves have similar holes.
What should i do? Any ideas on what they could be?

baby slugs were the culprits with mine, that and ants.
keep well watered and use slug stuff - you know, whatever you wanna use. i use pellets for the little blighters.

No - flea beetle. Read back & you'll see the need for fleece from day one.

Thanks for that!
Would the flea beetle like my mustard too?

They were on my peas yesterday, and I've got the tell tale holes in radishes (which are fleeced) and psb :(

I think my radishes had a combination of both the flea beatle and slug.... When i pulled a few of them up they had baby slugs attached....

Tim I've got it on my salad leaves but I fleeced them so do you think they must have been in there to start with? there's not much you can do about that is there?

Don't know - if you fleeced after they germinated, then possibly.
I would give them a good gentle brushing, replace the fleece & hope?

Same problem on our lottie - they're gorging themselves mostly on the radishes but that's probably because the rest hasn't come up yet so they'll no doubt move on for seconds...
Another lottie holder said the only way you can keep the blighters off is with the finest possible grade mesh (Eco-mesh?). She did also say that they probably won't kill the plants, just make them look decidedly less than show standard :)

All this reading of radish and lettuce damage is frightening as my radishes are coming up lovely in the mini greenhouse and I haven't covered them at all !!! I will check them out tomorrow but they do look very healthy !
If anyone knows. do radishes grow under or above ground?
??? ::) ;)

Tim I fleeced immediately after showing. It's just nibbled leaves at the moment I hope.
