Has anyone grown Amaranth for grain use?

Does anyone have spare seed?

Can I use Love Lies Bleeding?

Hi Diana

Have grown lots of different Amaranthus over the years, and didn't realise until recently that you can eat the young leaves of even the ornamental varieties ! Similar to spinach, apparently !
Sorry, have not tried the Cereal Grain one, but I'm tempted, as it looks a stunner !   :)
Found this info on Chiltern Seeds website.  Hope it helps.

Botanical Name: AMARANTHUS HYPOCHONDRIACUS Cereal Grain Amaranth, Golden Variety Amaranthaceae Cereal Grain Amaranth, Princes Feather
Genus: AMARANTHUS
Species: HYPOCHONDRIACUS
Variety: Cereal Grain Amaranth, Golden Variety
Family Name: Amaranthaceae
Catalogue No.: 85F
English Name: Cereal Grain Amaranth, Princes Feather
Description: If we had an Agricultural Section in this Catalogue, we could put this item in it; we could also put it in our Vegetable Section but, as you are most likely to grow it for its decorative qualities, we’ve decided to put it here. A beautiful ornamental, it is much cultivated in the Andes as a cereal crop. This variety has highly nutritious, white seeds that are excellent popped or ground into flour for use in breads, soups, porridge and, of course, tortillas. Although usually considered a half-hardy annual, there should be enough seeds in a packet to make trying a direct sowing well worthwhile. 3-6 ft.
Gardening on a wing and a prayer!!
