I’m not sure that that constitutes definite evidence. If you’re basing it on a summer sowing, it seems that rodents are less likely to be foraging desperately than in the depths of winter. There are rich pickings elsewhere. Also there’s quite an element of chance. Rodents will discover one patch and feast, while entirely missing a similar patch elsewhere.

I might be wrong but I’d still keep an open mind about which culprits to blame.
