Growing your own veg
« on: January 29, 2021, 08:22:53 »
There is a celebrity  old has been that is saying she is so poor she has to grow her own veg. Somebody tell her it is not a poor mans thing it is just being sensible. Perhaps if she sacked her gardener she could afford to go shopping

Who's that Ace?
Believe it or not I have heard the same from people who I thought to be quite sensible, when I tell them I grow my own.  They think I do it to save money or because I cant afford to buy food.  They don't quite get it...

Just been out... parsnips, carrots, swede turnips, winter radish, red and savoy cabbage and some parsley... nothing to do with saving money. Taste of fresh vegetables, fresh air and exercise... what's not to like!

Also knowing what has gone into and on them and picking just enough for a meal so the minerals and vitamins and so on don't degrade with storage.

Processing the carrots and parsnips as soup and freezing respectively.. so that we can rotate the pallet toppers and plant potatoes in the bed at Easter.

Yes you will never get the freshness we enjoy in the supermarket. Not to mention the sense of achievement. :happy7:

Got my seeds from Kings (Leisure Gardeners) today so all my packets are now stacked away in sowing order.

Spent this morning washing cell trays/ seed trays, punnets and pots in preparation for the sowing season.

I usually start sowing the first week in February so not long to go now.
