Onions in!

As many of you will know I am now growing my Veg mostly in containers and this is the progress to date:

This morning I transplanted my Onion setts which have been in 3" pots for the past month into these 24" x 15" x 6" deep trays.(see pics below)

I tried this last year and was relatively happy with the results and I learned a lot, not least, watering is more critical when growing in this manner!

I put 1" of  wood chips as a Drainage & Moisture retention layer in the bottom, then 2" of Compost from my Daleks and topped up with reused compost that has been riddled and fortified with fertilser.

The trays are now in the herbaceous border as you can see.

The plants in front of them are Alstroemeria which I have bonsaid (grown in 8" pot sunk into soil) to control the root spread and the height!

My Garlic is coming along quite nicely too so all in all I am hoping for a decent crop!
