Can anyone identify this allotment shrub?
« on: June 26, 2018, 12:37:56 »
Over the last few years a shrub has appeared in the area I reserve for fruit bushes/trees on my allotment and I can't identify it. It is multistemmed, grows to about 2 feet tall and has red stems and serrated brown leaves . At first I thought it was the rootstock of something that died off but I have never seen it flower let alone produce any fruit. At first there was one of them but now there are a few more.
See attached picture of part of a stem.

Could it be a young cherry tree? They often start off with bronze foliage.
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

It looks very much like a seedling copper beech to me
