Topic: How timid are frogs?

Typically, just as we are about to move house, we have finally got a couple of big frogs and lots of spawn in our little pond. At the same time we could do with cutting back some of the plants close to the pond. Is this likely to scare the frogs away? Also, we have a very overgrown lily in the pond- will this cause them any problem (getting tangled in the roots etc.)

Unlikely that you will scare them away. They are following a powerful natural instinct to lay spawn. If you disturb them they will get out of sight or submerge themselves for a while. But will soon reappear when things are quiet. And overgrown ponds are a perfect environment for them.

That said, our experience is that once the spawn is laid many will depart quite quickly. This time last year our pond was packed. Quieter so far this year probably due to the cold spring. But I don't think you need worry. Indeed quite the opposite. I find them delightful. Ribbit. Ribbit.
