Barley

Just dicovered that barley is a superfood. Made nice risotto with it last night Takes much longer than rice but better for you, tastier and cheaper!

 Rather than a rice substitute, my preference is malted, with hops and yeast. Its not to late to sow some.

ETA according to Google the bran has been removed in pearl barley.

That's what I used. Never seen any other for sale except for brewing.
My favourite brewery is in Debyshire: Thornbridge Jaipur is my fav

Apparently there is a less polished version of pearl barley called pot barley available from Holland and Barret which retains some of the health benefits that pearl doesn't. In Canada it has been accepted that barley reduces cholesterol by varying amounts as high as 8%
