BISMARCK HERRING BEETROOT SALAD

PICKLED BISMARCK HERRINGS WITH BEETROOT SALAD/BISMARCK HERINGE MIT RUBEN SALAT

I think I watched my German Dad consume 1000,s of Bismarck Herrings over the years and naturally out of season he would buy them already Pickled, but it was fun seeing him turn the raw fresh  fish when in season here into jarred and pickled ready to store under the stairs in the dark.
And so,I grew up eating them too,with fresh Broetchen probably once a week.
Todays Lunch was one such day,The Herrings with Fresh Steamed chopped Beetroot and fresh crisp healthy vegetables.
Of course this is my take on the salad,you will want to add your own choices

INGREDIENTS

1 Jar of pickled Bismarck Herrings chopped to bitesize pieces
2 Boiled Eggs chopped
3 Fresh Steamed Beetroots chopped
½ Red Onion Chopped fine
1 Tbsp Capers in Brine Chopped
1 Dill Pickle Chopped
Fresh Butternut Squash Spiralised
1 Fresh Apple Chopped
1 carrot Grated
1 inch slice Celeriac Grated
3 Radishes Sliced Thin
Few Fresh Pomegranate sprinkled over salad
2 Tbsps Quark/sour cream optional
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh Bread Rolls
Served on  Romaine Hearts Salad Leaves

Prep all the above ingredients and put into a large bowl,add your Quark/sour cream and season well....mix together easily.... then taste.....re season if neded.

Serve on Large Romaine Lettuce Leaves with Fresh Broetchen and extra Herring Fillets if so wished.
Enjoy Your Pickled Bismarck Herrings with a healthy crisp and crunchy lunchtime salad
